Junk and jewelry – Romua ja rikkauksia

I enjoy making junk collages. All you need is a base layer (a canvas, cardboard box, maybe an old handbag), loads of junk and a glue gun. One can get lost in the moment discovering the hidden treasures in the pieces and coming up with stories inspired by them.

Three pieces in my exhibition could be described as junk collages: Lelulaatikon Madonna (The Madonna of the toy storage), Väskyn sedimenttejä (Sediments of the handbag) and Harakan aarrekammio (The treasure chamber of the magpie). All of these were completed in the beginning of this year.

The Madonna piece combines plastic toys with religious iconography. It’s open to any interpretations the viewer wants to make, as is all art.

The handbag pieces juxtaposes mementos with pieces of trash and blown out birthday candles. What are the moments and things worth preserving, remembering and celebrating in our lives?

The jewelry collage combines a legion trinkets with handmade jewelry pieces.

Romua ja rihkamaa yhdistäviä roinakollaaseissa on paljon hauskoja yksityiskohtia, joiden tutkimiseen voi uppoutua. Nämä kolme työtä ovat valmistuneet tämä vuoden alussa.

Lelulaatikon Madonna -työssä yhdistin muovileluja uskonnolliseen kuvakieleen. Katsoja on vapaa tulkitsemaan työtä haluamastaan näkökulmasta – kuten taidetta yleensäkin.

Väskyn sedimenttejä rinnastaa muistoesineet ja roskat sekä sammutetut syntymäpäiväkynttilät. Mitkä elämämme hetket ja esineet ovat säilyttämisen, muistamisen ja juhlimisen arvoisia?

Korukollaasi ”Harakan aarrekammio” yhdistelee rihkamaa ja käsintehtyjä korunosia.
