Reusing and recycling is the main theme of this exhibition but for me these pieces stand out more than others in this respect. Instead of emptying it into the metal recycling bin, I dove in and resurfaced withe this mock necklace I dubbed ”Kätevän emännän kääty” (The Choker of the handy mistress). I enjoy making junk collages. All you need is a base layer (a canvas, cardboard box, maybe an old handbag), loads of junk and a glue gun. One can get lost in the moment discovering the hidden treasures in the pieces and coming up with stories inspired by them. Three pieces in my exhibition could be described as junk collages: Lelulaatikon Madonna (The Madonna of the toy storage), Väskyn sedimenttejä (Sediments of the handbag) and Harakan aarrekammio (The treasure chamber of the magpie). These pieces were made in 2021 and 2022.They can be categorised as fibre art. I enjoy weaving and got myself a small handheld loom to create modern woven tapestries. The exhibition features two woven pieces; Hattara (Cotton candy) and Musta kuningatar (Black Queen). The other two are textile collages/crazy quilts: Hullun tädin tilkkutyö (The quilt of the crazy aunt) was completed just two days before the opening of the exhibition.
